United Enterprise Fund is a specialized private equity fund that focuses on the franchise restaurant industry in urban and other low-to-moderate income (LMI) markets.
The Fund's strategy emphasizes partnering with minority restaurant operators and seeks to invest in restaurant franchisors that are or have the demonstrable potential to become super-regional or national concepts. The result is that the Fund is generating attractive risk-adjusted returns for its investors, as well as helping them with their corporate diversity initiatives.
UEF was founded in March 2000 by its Chairman, John O. Utendahl and Managing Partners, Jeffery Scott Keys and Daniel Z. Dean. UEF's investments include equity positions in several well-known restaurant brands including Le Petit Bistro and Bear Rock Café. The Fund also has made investments in franchisee operations in the Church's Chicken, RJ Gators and Cinnabon systems. In addition, the Fund recently completed the successful sale of its equity positions in Blimpie International, Maui Taco and one of its Church's Chicken franchise operating companies.
Jeff Keys and Dan Dean are both successful franchise restaurant industry professionals. Together they bring more than two decades of franchising experience plus expertise in underwriting and structuring debt and equity investments and deal origination and negotiation. Relying on the experience of its Managing Partners and leveraging its industry focused Board of Managers, UEF provides hands-on industry knowledge and valuable support networks to its portfolio companies.
